Israel Food Outreach
Year End Update:
It’s been a year like none other.
Despite all that’s going on in our crazy mixed up world, Israel Food Outreach has continued to remain strong it its commitment to get food and other needed supplies including quilts to Holocaust Survivors to our sources of distribution in Israel to get to her needy in the Land.
We were thrown a minor setback at the beginning of 2020 when we learned that the Israeli Health Ministry is now requiring ISO certification for all food items entering the country. By God's grace have a viable work around to this and a solution to resume shipments of our popular dried soup mix to the needy shortly after the first of the year. Our Quilting Ministry remains uneffected by this new government mandate, as it does not involve food.
Of note, Isreal Food Outreach is one of very few ministries that provide needed food because of all the regulatory problems. But we see a huge need and want to be there to respond. We need your help in this mission and ultimately might need to apply for the ISO, about $30,000 to accomplish.
Our relationship with Gleenings for the Hungry – the folks in Central California who gather and supply the soup mix from local farmers – is as strong as ever. They are backing Israel Food Outreach 100% in this transition and what needs be done to continue this vital supply line, to the people of Israel. We are all working together to continue the food shipments.
We recently learned that the founder of Gleanings as he looked upon the vacant parcel near Fresno California (circa 1975) that is now a huge complex of warehouses, offices and temporary housing for volunteers, had a vision that one day, his dream of feeding people all over the world from California’s Central Valley would one day include the nation of Israel.
While Wally Wenge a Cambodian refugee, has since passed away, but that vision continues with the current management of this worldwide outreach that's walking step by step with Israel Food Outreach to accomplish this fundamental and founding goal of this now world reknown organization.
Despite the momentary setback on our food shipments our Quilts to Holocaust Survivors remained unaffected this year as we shipped nearly 1000 quilts along with other needed supplies in a smaller 20 foot container.
RECEIVING OF THE QUILTS IN ISRAEL
And as soon as we are back on track with being able to ship food once again anticipated for first quarter 2021, we will resume our full shipments in the more traditional 40 foot seagoing containers.
We are planning a shipment for April and are much in need of funds for that effort. As you’ll recall our situation with Gleanings is that they supply all the dried soup mix free of charge so that all we need to be responsible for is just the duty and freight of getting the soup mix into Israel.
Likewise all of the quilts are hand made by faithful volunteers with a love for her people mostly Holocaust Survivors, at no cost to Israel Food Outreach (other than the batting material that provides for the warmth). In this way all we need to do is get the quilts and other needed supplies into the Land.
Please consider a tax deductible donation to help this cause. For your assurance nearly 100% of every dollar you donate goes directly to the needy. Israel Food Outreach is fully volunteer administrated with no salaries or weighted costs of any kind.
Additionally because the food and quilts are supplied free of charge, it is much like getting a dollar for dollar (2 for 1) match, so that every dollar you donate is effectively two (or more) when it is received in Israel, by our very grateful recipients.
